🌴 History and Culture
Negombo, which used to be called "Meegamuwa" in Sinhala, which means "Village of Honey," has been around since ancient trade routes. The Portuguese, Dutch, and British all wanted this area during colonial times since it was in a good location and had a lot of cinnamon trade. You can still see the effects of these colonial rulers in the architecture, churches, canals, and Dutch Fort surrounding town.
