The Taíno people lived in Punta Cana in the past, but it wasn't really developed until the 1970s. In 1969, a group of American businessmen saw that the coastline that had never been built on could be profitable and began to do so. That was back in 2000, and now Punta Cana is one of the most famous places for tourists to visit in the Caribbean.
